Surviving An Active Shooter: What Would You Do?

Active shooter events, like those at the law firm in Long Beach in December, San Bernardino, and others, are occurring with increasing frequency throughout the United States.

Although the odds of being involved in such an event are low, the sudden, catastrophic nature of these attacks requires that individuals, schools, workplaces, and public areas think in advance about how to respond.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has created this program to help people answer the question:  "What would you do?"

The following topics will be discussed:

  • If you have to immediately exit a location, how can you do so safely?

  • If you cannot get outside and away from the threat, how can you secure yourself and those with you against attack?

  • If you must confront your attacker, how can you do it in a way that gives you the best chance of survival?

Program presented by LACBA Senior Lawyers Section and Marsh Risk & Insurance Services as a public community service to LACBA members and their clients.

SPEAKER:

Deputy James R. Grady, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
