Congressional Investigations: Why Every Industry Should Be Aware of What’s Going on in Washington

Program Title:

Congressional Investigations: Why Every Industry Should Be Aware of What’s Going on in Washington

Program Date:

Thursday, February 21, 2019

Program Description:
The 2018 midterm elections were historic, altering the makeup of Congress to now include the most women in history and flipping the House of Representatives from a Republican to a Democratic majority.  With a Democratic majority in the House, investigations might be launched into topics, such as:
“Techlash”: data privacy, antitrust, the Internet of Things, “fake news,” platform liability
Drug pricing
Theft of trade secrets / economic espionage with a focus on China
Environmental protection and climate change
Use of executive authority by the White House and the Administration
So what do you do when Congress comes knocking?  This panel will address best practices, legal and non-legal considerations when Congress investigates an industry, and how your clients should have a fundamental understanding of the similarities – and dissimilarities – between congressional investigations and other law enforcement investigations.
