Introductory TAP

This is one in a series of courses offered by LACBA's acclaimed Trial Advocacy Project (TAP), where attorneys can get trial experience FAST.

Course Dates:  May 25, 27, June 1, 2, 8, 10 

Designed specifically for attorneys who have no trial experience, this course provides introductory trial advocacy instruction, emphasizing participant mock trial performance and constructive feedback. Participants receive instruction on trial skills and perform several phases of a jury trial.  This 3-week course is taught 4 times a year, in January, March, May, and September. Two weekday evenings from 6:00-8:30 p.m.

  • Introductory TAP provides introductory instruction on trial advocacy.
  • Participants learn, develop, and apply trial advocacy skills directly applicable to civil litigation, criminal prosecution, employment matters, criminal defense, and administrative hearings.
  • Participants receive instruction on, and perform, several key phases of a jury trial, including marking exhibits, laying evidentiary foundations, delivering opening statements, conducting direct and cross-examination of witnesses, and delivering closing arguments.
  • Participants try a mock trial.
  • Introductory TAP constitutes 15 hours of MCLE credit and 1 hour of ethics (ethics in opening statements, witness examination & closing arguments).

There are no prerequisites or interviews for course admission. Due to the performance aspect of this course, each session is limited to 14 people per class.

Non-Members: $1,195

CLE:
15 hours of participatory MCLE credit and 1 hour of ethics credit.

Advance registration (both online and via phone) closes for most programs approximately 12-24 hours before event time (in order to allow for operational considerations), we would still like to have you join us, and you are more than welcome to register on-site and attend, unless the program is specifically noted as SOLD OUT. Full refunds issued only for registrations which are cancelled 48 hours in advance.
