The Tax Cut & Jobs Act and the Entertainment Industry

The Tax Cut & Jobs Act and the Entertainment Industry: What You Need to Know Now for Changing Times
Program Date:
Wednesday, June 6, 2018

Program Description:
Please join LACBA’s Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section to discuss the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the most sweeping tax legislation to be enacted in recent history, as it applies to the entertainment industry. Our speakers, attorneys from Venable, will provide an overview of the Act with an emphasis on its application to film and TV talent, production companies, and athletes.

Topics to be covered will include:

•     Qualification for the 20% pass-through deduction on entertainment businesses, including loanout companies and production companies
•     Structuring entertainment businesses going forward, both domestically and globally
•     New cost recovery rules applicable to producers and owners of copyrights
•     Effect of repealed deductions on athletes and talent who do not use a loanout company
