Presented by the Environmental Law Section
California Air Resources Board (CARB) recently selected ten communities around the state for new community air monitoring and/or the development of community emissions reduction plans. The communities nominated by local Air Districts included three Southern California community areas – East L.A./Boyle Heights, Carson/Wilmington/West Long Beach, and San Bernardino/Muscoy. Working in collaboration with a designated Community Steering Committee (CSC) for each area, the Air Districts now must develop emissions reduction plans to reduce air pollution exposures in these communities. This panel will discuss the new air quality planning framework created by AB617; opportunities and challenges for achieving emission reductions; and potential impacts to businesses’ plans, permits, and penalties.
